Web design and development company for SEO-first sites and Shopify stores
NextGen Code is a web design and development company that builds marketing websites, web apps, and Shopify stores for small businesses and growing brands. We're a Shopify Partner, and our Shopify developers build custom themes, custom apps, and headless storefronts (a custom front end on top of Shopify's checkout and back office). Other sites we build on Next.js or WordPress, depending on what your team needs to manage day to day.
This is for you if…
- Your website gets visits but few leads or sales, and you can't tell where people drop off.
- Pages load slowly on phones, fail Core Web Vitals, or break when someone edits them.
- You're launching or replatforming a Shopify store, or your theme is weighed down by apps you no longer use.
- Your discounts or checkout logic stopped working when Shopify retired Scripts, or you need custom logic built with Shopify Functions.
- You've received an accessibility demand letter, or you don't know whether your site meets WCAG.
- You want an AI assistant or AI search on your site that answers from your content instead of making things up.
Overview
Websites and Shopify stores built SEO-first, accessible by design, and fast on every phone.
Every site starts SEO-first. Keyword research shapes the sitemap, and each page targets one search intent. Structured data (code that tells search engines and AI assistants what a page is about), redirects, and Core Web Vitals (Google's measures of loading speed, responsiveness, and visual stability) are part of the build, not a cleanup project after launch. Accessibility to WCAG 2.2 AA is built into the design system from the first component.
Search is also moving into AI assistants. Shoppers ask ChatGPT and Gemini for recommendations, and Shopify's Agentic Storefronts let merchants sell inside AI chats such as ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Microsoft Copilot. We build sites with clean product data, clear answers, and AI features of your own, such as on-site assistants and AI search, so you're found and chosen in both places.
What you get
Deliverables, not decks.
- 01
SEO-first site architecture
Keyword research, a URL map with one search intent per page, page templates for services, locations, products, and articles, an internal linking plan, structured data such as Organization, LocalBusiness, Product, and BreadcrumbList, and a redirect map for every old URL.
- 02
Design system and responsive design
Wireframes and Figma designs built mobile-first, with a component library that keeps pages consistent and meets WCAG 2.2 AA for contrast, focus states, and keyboard use.
- 03

An on-site assistant that answers from your pages, policies, and catalog, AI search that understands natural-language queries, personalized product recommendations, and product data structured so AI shopping assistants can match it.
- 06
Launch QA, analytics, and training
Core Web Vitals and accessibility testing, redirect checks, Google Analytics 4 and Search Console with consent settings and conversion tracking, plus CMS training and recorded walkthroughs for your team.
How it works
A clear process, start to finish.
- 011–2 weeks
Research and plan
Keyword and competitor research, a sitemap and URL plan, and content requirements. For an existing site, we crawl every current URL so nothing that ranks gets lost.
- 022–3 weeks
Design
Wireframes, then full designs in Figma for mobile and desktop, reviewed with you and checked for accessibility before development starts.
- 033–6 weeks
Build and load content
Development on Shopify, Next.js, or WordPress, CMS setup, content migration, structured data, analytics, and integrations, with a staging site you can review throughout.
- 041 week
Test and launch
Core Web Vitals, accessibility checks (automated with axe and manual with screen readers), cross-browser and device testing, redirect checks, and Search Console submission on launch day.
- 05Ongoing
Train and improve
CMS training for your team, then monthly reporting on rankings, speed, and conversions, with fixes and tests prioritized by what the data shows.
What we measure
The numbers this moves.
We baseline these before we start and report against them after launch.
Organic search visibility
Rankings, impressions, and clicks for each page's target keyword in Google Search Console, measured against a pre-launch baseline.
Core Web Vitals
Passing Google's "good" thresholds on real-user data: Largest Contentful Paint of 2.5 seconds or less, Interaction to Next Paint of 200 milliseconds or less, and Cumulative Layout Shift of 0.1 or less, at the 75th percentile of visits.
Conversion rate
Leads, bookings, or orders per visit, tracked by page and traffic source so design and content changes are judged on results.
Accessibility
Zero critical WCAG 2.2 AA failures at launch, verified with automated scans and manual screen reader testing.
Publishing speed
How quickly your team can publish a new page or product without a developer. The target is same-day.
In practice
What this looks like in a real business.
Lead generation for a service business
Example: a Dallas law firm or roofing company gets a page for each service and city it targets, built from keyword research, with fast load times, call tracking, a CRM integration, and an assistant that answers common questions and books consultations.
Shopify storefronts for growing brands
We've built Shopify storefronts for Mirra Skincare, Braxley Bands, and Infinite Coolers, including a React front end on the Shopify API for Braxley and a WordPress blog alongside the store for Mirra.
An artist site with commerce and fan marketing
For Justin Starling Music we built an artist website, a fan text-alert system, and a Shopify merch store, and supported it with SEO and Facebook Pixel marketing.
Headless commerce when it earns its place
Example: a brand with heavy editorial content and custom bundles moves to Shopify Hydrogen, or Next.js on the Storefront API, for full design control and speed. We recommend headless only when themes truly limit the business, because it adds build and maintenance cost.
Custom Shopify logic and integrations
Example: a brand selling wholesale and retail needs tiered B2B pricing and inventory synced with its ERP. A Shopify Function applies the pricing at checkout, and a custom app keeps stock and orders in sync.
AI product discovery
Example: an outdoor-gear store adds AI search that understands "waterproof boots for wide feet under $150" and recommendations based on browsing and order history, then enriches its product data so AI shopping assistants can match it too.

Related work
Built by the same team.
A faster, modular React storefront on Shopify for an Apple Watch band brand
Braxley Bands needed a website that was fast, modular, and worked with Shopify. We built a React.js storefront on the Shopify API that loaded faster than builder sites and automated fulfillment and abandoned-cart notifications.
A Shopify site and WordPress blog for a skincare brand that outgrew Squarespace
Mirra Skincare, a science-first skincare brand, had outgrown its Squarespace website. We built a Shopify landing page and connected a WordPress blog so commerce and content each ran on a platform built for the job.
A custom Shopify store built to launch a new cooler
Infinite Coolers asked us to build a custom Shopify site to sell its new cooler. We designed and built the store on Shopify with a clean black-and-white look.

FAQ
Web & Shopify: common questions
Still have a question? Ask us directly.
How much does a new website or Shopify store cost?
Website cost is driven by scope more than page count. The big drivers are the number of unique page templates, how much content needs writing or migrating, custom features such as calculators, booking, or customer portals, integrations with your CRM, ERP, or inventory system, Shopify apps you'd replace with custom code, and accessibility fixes on an existing site. A small-business marketing site and a headless Shopify build are very different projects, so we scope after a short call and give you a fixed quote before work starts.
How long does it take to build a website?
A marketing website or Shopify storefront typically takes 2–3 months from kickoff to launch: 1–2 weeks of research and planning, 2–3 weeks of design, 3–6 weeks of building and loading content, and a week of testing. Headless builds, custom Shopify apps, and web applications take longer and are scoped on their own. Content is the most common delay, so we set content deadlines in the first week and can help write or migrate the copy.
Should we use Shopify, WordPress, or a custom Next.js site?
Pick the platform your team can run without calling a developer for every change. Shopify is the right default for most online stores because hosting, checkout, payments, and security are handled for you. WordPress suits content-heavy sites whose editors already know it. A custom Next.js site makes sense when you need application features, top-tier speed, or content and commerce combined in ways themes can't handle. Headless Shopify, with Hydrogen or Next.js on the Storefront API, is powerful but adds cost and upkeep, so it has to earn its place.
Will a redesign hurt our Google rankings?
Not if the migration is handled properly. Redesigns lose rankings when URLs change without redirects, pages that ranked get cut, or titles and structured data disappear. Before launch we crawl your current site, map every old URL to its new home with a permanent 301 redirect, keep the content and titles that earn traffic, and carry structured data over. After launch we submit the new sitemap in Google Search Console and watch crawl errors, rankings, and traffic closely for the following weeks.
Do you make websites ADA and WCAG compliant?
We design, build, and test to WCAG 2.2 Level AA, which also covers the older 2.1 and 2.0 levels that US regulations and legal settlements usually reference. That means sufficient color contrast, full keyboard navigation, visible focus, labeled forms, alt text, and captions, checked with automated tools like axe and by hand with screen readers. We don't rely on overlay widgets: they don't fix the underlying code, and in 2025 the FTC finalized an order against one overlay vendor over its compliance claims. This isn't legal advice.
Can you add AI features to our website or store?
Yes, and we build them to answer from your content instead of inventing answers. An on-site assistant uses retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), which lets the AI answer from your own pages, policies, and product catalog; it cites its sources and hands off to a person when it isn't sure. AI search understands requests like "a gift for a coffee lover under $50," and recommendations draw on browsing and order history. Guardrails matter: in 2024 a Canadian tribunal held an airline liable for a fare policy its website chatbot got wrong.
Who owns the site, and what happens after launch?
You own the domain, the hosting or Shopify account, the theme or codebase, and the content, all in your name from day one. Before launch we train your team to edit pages, products, and posts in the CMS and leave recorded walkthroughs for new hires. After launch, a support retainer covers updates, security patches, speed and SEO monitoring, app audits (removed Shopify apps can leave code behind that slows a store), and small improvements, with larger projects scoped separately.
