Why businesses call us

Everyone's talking about AI. Few businesses are getting paid by it.

Owners tell us the same story: a few people use ChatGPT, someone bought three tools nobody opens, and nobody can say whether any of it saves a dollar. The problem isn't the technology. It's the lack of a plan tied to your numbers — and a team that can actually build it.

  • Tool sprawl

Subscriptions without a strategy or an owner.

  • Stalled pilots

Demos that never make it into daily work.

  • No ROI

No baseline, so no way to prove anything worked.

That's the gap we close: a clear AI plan, built and measured.

What we do

Strategy, intelligence and engineering — under one roof.

Three practices that work as one team, so the analysis, the AI and the software actually connect.

Why NextGen Code

Your tech guys, now your AI team.

Clients have called us "my tech guys" since 2018. We started as experienced freelance developers in Lubbock, became the team businesses across Texas trusted to build their software — and now we bring that same hands-on approach to AI.

    We build, not just advise

Most AI consultants hand you a slide deck. We've shipped production software since 2018, so the roadmap and the build come from the same team.

  • 02

    Top-down analysis first

We start with your numbers — operations, finances, marketing, market. AI is a tool for moving those numbers, not the goal.

  • 03

    ROI before code

Every recommendation comes with a baseline, a target metric and a payback estimate, so you fund what pays back first.

  • 04

    Plain English, always

No jargon walls. You'll understand exactly what you're buying, why it matters and how we'll measure it.

  • Texas roots. National reach. One accountable team from the first analysis to the shipped product.

FAQ

Questions owners ask us

Straight answers about cost, timelines, data and what AI will — and won't — do for your business.

Still have a question? Ask us directly.

What does an AI consulting firm actually do?

An AI consulting firm helps you decide where AI will make or save money in your business, then helps you implement it. At NextGen Code that means analyzing your operations, finances and marketing; ranking AI opportunities by return on investment; and then building the automations, dashboards, AI agents or custom software those opportunities need — and training your team to use them.

How much does AI consulting cost for a small business?

It depends on scope more than anything else. A fixed-fee assessment costs far less than a custom build, and a monthly advisory retainer sits in between. We scope every engagement around a measurable outcome and give you a payback estimate before you commit. Our AI consulting cost guide breaks down typical pricing models and the drivers behind them.

Do we need clean, organized data before we can use AI?

No. Many of the highest-return AI projects — answering missed calls, drafting quotes, summarizing documents, following up with leads — need very little historical data. Clean data matters for forecasting and analytics, and part of our assessment is telling you exactly which data problems are worth fixing first and which can wait.

How quickly will we see results?

Most clients see a first working automation or dashboard within a few weeks, because we start with quick wins that pay for the rest of the roadmap. Larger builds like custom software or AI on your own data take longer, and we deliver them in short cycles so you're using real improvements along the way instead of waiting for a big launch.

Will AI replace my employees?

In small and mid-sized businesses, AI usually replaces tasks, not people. The goal is to take repetitive work — data entry, copy-paste between systems, chasing follow-ups — off your team's plate so they can spend that time on customers and growth. We plan for adoption and training from day one so your team sees AI as help, not a threat.

Do you only work with businesses in Texas?

No. We were founded in Lubbock and have team members in Dallas, Austin, Lubbock and Corpus Christi, so we can work on-site across Texas when it helps. Most of our work runs remotely, and we work with businesses anywhere in the United States.

Can you build the software, or do you only give advice?

We build. NextGen Code has shipped production software for clients since 2018 — web platforms, iOS and Android apps, ERPs and Shopify stores. That's our difference from advisory-only consultants: the people who design your AI roadmap are the same team that engineers, launches and supports it.
