The idea that the Titanic most likely would have survived a head on collission with the iceberg is probably technically correct but psychologically the idea is absurd. A number of people, mostly firemen in the forwards compartments would have been killed. It would have been impossible for Murdoch to abstain from attempting to avoid the iceberg based on the assumption that the manouvre would cause the presumably unsinkable ship to founder. He would have been sentenced to prison for manslaughter.
